• Hi Roland

As you know I’ve been a Participants Database user for a long time. Today I updated a few plugin’s on my site and while the WP Plugin update page reported all updates have completed successfully (and the front-end site still works) when I switch from the “Update plugins” page to ANY other page within the WordPress admin I gate a page which only states:
    ————–
    Error thrown
    Call to undefined method Participants_Db::string_sanitize()
    ——————

Now the only plugin relating to the Participants Database which I updated was the Email Expansion Kit. For that, on the plugins update page it now states:

    ———-
“Participants Database Email Expansion Kit updated successfully.
    `Downloading update from https://xnau.com/xnau-updates/?action=download&slug=pdb-email-expansion…
    Unpacking the update…
    Installing the latest version…
Removing the old version of the plugin…
    Plugin updated successfully.”
    —————-

Normally I would reinstall a Backup BUT I cannot even access my Backups plugin!

Any ideas how I can fix this? Only other important things to add is, I have not updated the Participants Database itself for a few weeks as your recent updates all said they did not support my current version of PHP, which is PHP 7.0. I cannot update my site beyond PHP 7.0 as it always crashes when I do and I’ve not as yet identified what is causing that. And as I cannot now access any other parts of my WP Admin I’m afraid I cannot tell you the version of the Parcticipants Database, that I am currently running. For the PD plugin it will be the last version you issued which works with PHP7.0. For the Expansion kit it is now running the latest version, and the version it was previously using when the site was working, will probably be the previous version or the one before that.

I’ll ask my hosting support if they can restore an earlier backup but otherwise I hope you can help!

    Thanks
    Gareth

    UPDATE!

I have managed to restore a previous backup of the site and WordPress admin pages are all available again. I will not risk trying to update this site’s plugins again – unless anyone can suggest what might have caused the problem.

You can view a screenshot of the plugin updates available to me now at https://www.dropbox.com/s/4ss7n3aa3ct07eo/WordPress%20Plugins%20offered%207%20Aug%2022.jpg?dl=0, and from that you can also see what versions of the various Participants Database plugins and add-ons I am currently running.

Any suggestions as to what may have caused the “Error thrown….” message?

The reason for the error is that the latest version of the Email Expansion plugin requires Participants Database 2.1.10 or later. Update Participants Database to the latest version before updating any of its add-on plugins.

    My apologies for the inconveninece!

Thanks for the quick reponse Roland. OK, do you think you could add a note against the Email Expansion plugin update to state that it requires Participants Database 2.1.10 or later. Would be good as it would avoid others having the same problem!

Yes, thanks, I try to avoid having a dependency on such a recent version, that was my mistake.
