Cannonical tag issue

Thanks for using Yoast SEO plugin and reaching out to us.

I checked the source code of the page you have shared with us and noticed that it’s outputted with the canonical URL pointing to the same URL, which is called self-canonical and it’s the expected behavior on a page.

So, can you please let us know the canonical URL you have added manually to the page using Yoast canonical URL field?

Thanks for sharing. Since the page URL is what you want as the canonical URL, you don’t have to fill anything in the canonical URL field. The Yoast SEO uses self-canonicalization.

By default, the paginated archives will pick the URL of the page in the series as the canonical URL. What you have is the expected behavior

Here is the page https://eddu.pro/programming/page/5/ where the cannonical url field is not filled in

As you can see, the canonical url

class="yoast-seo-meta-tag?>

It should be https://eddu.pro/programming/ as this is the pagination page.

Self-canonicalization does not work

We checked on the page and are currently seeing the canonical for as pointing to https://eddu.pro/programming/

Regarding paginated content, its the default behavior of the plugin to point paginated content to the page in question, not the first page of the content.

If you do wish to change the canonical value we have a guide on how to this here. Also, the canonical URL can be change programmatically using the wpseo_canonical developer filter, as described here.
