• Hello,

I have Simple Membership plugin installed on my wordpress site and I use the integration with Stripe for membership payments. This is the only payment function on my site.

When I look at all payments via the Stripe dashboard, I see a lot of canceled payments.

I talked with Stripe support about this. They said that “..it appears that your integration is allowing your customer to process off sessions…”. Somehow, this should allow for delayed payments, which after 24 hrs end up as canceled payments. No charge is transfered from the customer to me.

In the sucesful payments I have received, the payment was synchronous. I do not understand why some payments are synchronous and others are not. The user does not have an option to select between the two, during the payment/check-out process. Is this something determined by the Simple Membership integration with Stripe?

Have you encountered a similar problem with canceled payments before? Do you have a suggestion for the cause?

I have tried troubleshooting by conducting erronous payments in different ways, e.g. using wrong credit card information, deliberaty leaving out required information, but this results in “failed” payments or “incomplete” payments, not “canceled” payments.

Let me know if you can help?

    Best regards

    Mouritz

    Hi,

Are you talking about the Stripe payment gateway process or are you referring to the following integration?

    Thank you

Thanks a lot for the answer!

Looking through the documentation you linked to, I see that I did not set up membership payment excactly as described in the guide. In step 2 of the guide, a Stripe product should be created. I have not done this. I have simply added Stripe API keys to the simple membership settings and created a Stripe payment button. Is this an issue?

When clicking the current payment button, a stripe payment window pops up. When a payment is successful, an account registration e-mail is send to the user and the remaining process is smooth, as controlled from the simple membership plugin.

Does this help to answer your question on whether the issue is related to the stripe gateway process or the stripe-simple membership integration?

The Stripe support said the issue was related to the simple membership payment integration.

Please let me know if you need further information. I am new in this area, so please exuse if the question is not answered concisely.

If you are using the Stripe Payments addon then yes you need to create a new product as stated in the documentation above. Please follow the instructions and complete all the steps. Then carry out a test.

Let me know how you go.

    Thank you

I might have found an explanation for the canceled payments. I suspect that “failed” and “imcomplete” payments are automatically converted to “canceled” payments after 24 hrs by Stripe. I have made a test and tommorow I will know.

If that is the case, the mystery of the canceled payments is solved. In that case, I have a payment solution now which works how it is supposed to. As mentioned, I have not make a Stripe product, I only made a Stripe payment button via the Simple Membership plugin. I prefer not to change things if not necessary. Is there any cause for concern with my current payment setup (i.e. no Stripe product, only a Stripe payment button, connnected to a membership level, created via the Simple Membership plugin)?

    Hi,

As mentioned, I have not make a Stripe product, I only made a Stripe payment button via the Simple Membership plugin.

That is fine. The only reason why I shared the URL above regarding the integration between Simple Membership Plugin and Stripe Payments Plugin was to confirm if you had both plugins running in your site. However if you are only running Simple Membership plugin in your site then you don’t need to create a Stripe product. All you need to do is create a Stripe payment button.

Let me know if the above makes sense to you.

    Thank you
