• I’m having trouble adding images to food menu sections with the Canape theme.

When I try to add media to a section in the backend, it looks fine in visual and text mode. But on the frontend, instead of showing the image, it only shows the HTML.

It’s doing the same thing for any HTML I try to enter in that section; it just shows the code instead of executing it. Images work perfectly fine as a featured image for individual food items, but not for menu sections.

Take a look at the Breakfast section here: https://test.petescoffeeshop.com/menu

Is it possible to add images to menu sections with the Canape theme by default? Or is there a way to customize it to show images? Any help would be appreciated!

The blog I need help with is test.petescoffeeshop.com.

  • Hi there,

The sections themselves don’t support the ability to use HTML in their descriptions, but it looks like you found a workaround by adding the images in a separate food item and adding some CSS.

    Hi David,

Thank you for the fast response.

I did find a workaround, but it’s not ideal because of the hardcoded CSS tied to element IDs. Adding new menu content sections would need to be done by a developer to preserve consistent formatting, which defeats the point of an easy-to-use CMS.

I’m wondering why the descriptions don’t support HTML on the menu page only, when the same HTML renders correctly in the admin and on the homepage featured menu sections, and it works fine for menu items within each menu section.

I’ve readded HTML to Breakfast section to show you what I mean. Renders on home, doesn’t on /menu: https://test.petescoffeeshop.com/

I’ve tried to find where the content is being called in the PHP or search for general WordPress and site support forums about not rendering HTML only on certain page sections, but had no luck so far.

Could you maybe explain why it doesn’t work or point me in the right direction to find where to fix it?

I appreciate your help. I love this theme so far, and this is the only major issue I’ve been able to find.

the same HTML renders correctly in the admin and on the homepage featured menu sections, and it works fine for menu items within each menu section.

Could you link to a screenshot of what this looks like in wp-admin?

When I’ve gone to Food Menus > Menu Sections and added HTML in the Description field, that HTML is automatically removed. I’m testing using the theme and Jetpack with no other plugins running.

Weird, it’s not stripping out the HTML for me like it is for yours. It looks just like I’d expect, where I see the HTML in text edit mode and the image in visual mode.

Here’s a link to some screenshots from the backend and frontend. The only place it doesn’t render is the menu page, but the image looks fine and doesn’t show HTML everywhere else.

I tried deactivating all plugins except Jetpack. I’ve also tried plugins that allow HTML in category descriptions and add an image field to categories. None of it has worked. I also tried editing the PHP file but can’t find where the menu section is being called.

Thank you for your help troubleshooting this.

    Hi again,

So this doesn’t look standard. Is there a plugin giving you the visual editor and the ability to add media/contact forms there? Does your host maybe force any plugins to be active on your installation?
