Can you list pages or sub-pages in the custom field or excerpt

I’m looking to list the sub-pages of a number of pages, dynamically, in a custom field or the page excerpt. I’m NOT looking for a way to do this in the templates, I need to know if what I’m thinking of doing isn’t possible other than manually typing them all in as a list.
