• I’m trying to figure out how wordpress works. I learned how to create a website using wordpress, but also want to blog. Can I do both under my one domain? How do I get my blogs to show up on my wordpress website? When I go to my website, the blogs or nowhere to be found…I have to actually type in the blog url to find them. Do I link to them?

  • Yes it’s possible, you will have to install wordpress under a subdomain (basically you make a folder in your ROOT directory) and/or copy and paste the wordpress files there.

What is a subdomain? Is that another domain name? So to do this you would need to purchase 2 domain names?

Xavier is referring to having something like blog.example.com when your main domain is example.com. Most hosting companies allow that at no extra charge and it must be done in the hosting accounts’s cpanel or similar configuration.

But you say that you have a website and a blog. Are you trying to move the blog to the website or is it already a page on the website and it’s not showing up?

I built the website, but now am trying to build a blog. I’m just trying to figure out how I can create both without purchasing another domain name. If I were to create like you said (blog.example.com) would I then put a link on my main website to that page to make it show?

I’m sorry, I want to help but I don’t understand when you say you built the site did you do it from scratch or are you using a commercial theme or free one? You should be able to do it one of two ways unless for some reason your hosting does not allow sub domains, which I haven’t seen with any client.

You can set it up with the sub domain, and then yes you would set up a link on the main site to it so that would be blog.example.com.

Or depending on the theme you can set it up so the blog page displays your posts and it would be something like example.com/page just like any other page that links to the latest posts if the theme allows it. Hope that helps.
