• Hi.
I have installed your plugin on my site and it appears excellent but I cannot change/set any of the admin plugin settings myself. I am blind and use a screen reader software (Jaws For Windows) to read the screen and interact with the internet/browser on my PC.
It would appear that you have created all the setting controls as custom toggles using Javascript rather than using standard HTML features such as checkboxes, radio buttons, drop down selectors etc.
Unfortunately non standard JS code like this cannot be read or interacted with by a screenreader and this means I can’t use the plugin as a blind dev / WP admin user.
It also means your plugin can’t be used by people using speech control on their computer, braille screens and many other access technologies.

Could you please consider changing the controls in the plugin to make it accessible.
Some other plugins have taken different methods to fix it – some set an accessibility mode to make all controls standard HTML so people could revert if desired and then I just change that setting – you must make that setting standard HTML of course.
Other plugin devs such as WPMUDEV changed all their code.
If you Google and talk with some accessibility dev experts in this area it is possible to make accessible custom toggles but it isn’t easy at all.

Very much hope you can fix this for me.

I would also add that these custom toggles are very confusing and difficult to use even for sighted people and friends. When there is a custom button with the word “On” on it, does that mean it is already on or you have to press the button to turn it on and then the display words change to “off” so you are left wondering if you have turned it on or off.

    Thanks,
    Dale.

    Hi Dale,

Thanks for providing this feedback. Having an option to enable an accessible version of our settings page would probably make the most sense as a way for us to implement this. I’ll ask our developers to see if it’s something we would be able to add in a future update.

As for the custom toggles, we don’t have any settings with the words “on” or “off” used as options. Our toggle switches are just masking a single checkbox. So, toggling the switch on checks the box, and toggling the switch off unchecks the box. And, if the box is checked, the setting is set to true.

Hi – Have you discussed fixing the accessibility issues with your plugin yet?
Would really like to be able to use it myself.
    Dale.

    Hi Dale,

Thanks for checking in. Our last round of updates focused primarily on the blocks and block patterns, as well as bug fixes. Unfortunately, we did not have time at that point to look into implementing the accessibility features that we discussed for the settings pages. We have another maintenance update planned for later this year. Hopefully we have the availability at that point to look into implementing these.
