• We have a client whose website has a Members Area. That area shows you two dropdowns:
    Search by Company
    Search by Product.

So if you select a company from the dropdown, it shows all the details about that company (who is a member). From their address, to other details including their distributors and product sectors.

I guess it is like a classifies, so you can see if that company works for Brand A, B and C, and if they provide services in window repairs, door repairs and so on.

They pay to be on there.
Trouble is, I don’t see a method by which I can add these custom fields into the User Profile (only for those who are members), and worse still, I don’t see a way to add a dropdown option that collates the information from all the users.

ie. a dropdown that if they choose “Antennas”, all the businesses/members that haev checked the box for antennas, will show up on the results.

This Member plugin is the only one I can think of to potentially do this, but need help to see if it is possible.

  • It would be helpful if you could provide a link.

However, given my current understanding, to solve your issue, you can create a new user role or modify a current user role.

Once you have the user role you wish to add your searchable category, create/modify a profile form for that user role. In the profile form, create a new field, either drop-down/multi-check/radio, containing the categories you want users to select.

Once you’ve completed the profile, go to your Member’s directory and add the field as a search item.

This is their website’s finder page. These categories and Companies are all set within their ‘member profiles’.

This is what I need to achieve.

I’m trying to see where we add “Categories” for example, so we create a field and can add as many as we like, so that the Member can “tick” the boxes of those categories.

Let’s see they are an electrician, you want them to click the box for the various skillsets they have.

Then those skill sets are in that menu list.
How do we go about doing that?

You do it following what I said in my first comment:

    1. Go to your user profile form and create a new field using “Multiselect.”
    2. Add your categories under “Edit Choice.”
    3. Once that is done, add the newly created field as a search category in your Members directory.
