    Hello,
We are on 4.5.3 and have a few code changes because of the german sales rights.
    As mentioned in the
blogentry – critical-vulnerability (table) we don’t have to update but i have a few questions.

    1. Can we update on a higher version that the source code isn’t affected or is it always be updated in general, version independent?
    2. Obviously we are using a lot of WooCommerce plugins. Can we update them without affecting the WooCommerce source code?
    – Amazon Pay
    – JTL-Connector
    – Multilingual
    – Product Bundles
    – Product Feed
    – Subscriptions

    Regards

    Hi, @tls5000!

I don’t think this is possible at all. The very act of updating to a higher version comes with code changes.

    2. Obviously we are using a lot of WooCommerce plugins. Can we update them without affecting the WooCommerce source code?

This is impossible to say for certain. The WooCommerce code will, of course, stay the same if you don’t update it, but it doesn’t mean that updates to other plugins will not affect how WooCommerce functions and vice-versa. These plugins (including WooCommerce) often affect each other. Some plugins even heavily depend on WooCommerce. We’ve seen cases where a site breaks because a new plugin is looking for a function that doesn’t exist in an old version of WooCommerce.

This is why we highly suggest keeping all plugins up-to-date to ensure that your website functions as expected. This will also ensure that your website is running as securely as possible, as there will have been security vulnerabilities corrected with the updates.

Moving from version 4.5.3 to the latest version, 5.6, would be a big jump though. As with any updates, we suggest testing them first on a staging site and making full backups of your site. If you’re interested, we have more information on best practices for updates here: How To Update WooCommerce.

I hope that helped clarify things!
