• Hi,
I am working on a new theme, want to put some default widgets in there as well. My question is can I simply copy and paste the code of a widget [from functions.php or whatever the file is in another theme] to my theme files to make the widgets available with my theme?
I will appreciate if anyone can point me to the files required to create and register a sidebar widget, another thing I want to know is that can we place a sidebar widget in the content area as well?
Know these are perhaps very basic questions for most of you people, but will really appreciate any response to this post.
    TIA

I wonder if someone can tell me why my questions are not getting any response?

Because the support forums are manned by unpaid volunteers and, sometimes, we just don’t have the answers so we don’t reply.

Yes, widgets don’t have to be in the sidebar, they can be anywhere.

By the way. Please don’t bump posts. Per the Forum welcome “Bumping a post to “the top” does not help your topic get noticed. The volunteers who try to answer questions look for those without replies first. If you bump a post, then it disappears from the “No Replies” view.
