I noticed that for each download item we add to our WordPress environment, there is a download post generated, that allows us to write a title, description and other things for our item.

Just to add a hint of more security for our downloaded files, is there anyway we can use the “Title” of the downloaded post, rather than the raw name of the file, when the file is downloaded and saved to desktop?

If this option was available (to have an alternative file name), it will help avoid users from knowing the raw file name, and “guessing” where the file is stored under the uploads/ directory, and sharing that “raw” URL link out to the public.

    Is this possible?

  • Hello,

It is possible to do so,if you are comfortable adding a PHP snippet in your child theme’s functions.php file, by modifying the sent headers using the “dlm_download_headers” filter located here. You can use this to alter the ‘Content-Disposition’ header and set the filename to point to the Download’s name.

    Warmly,
    Razvan
