Can we automatically block attempts to access admin login?

I see a LOT of attempts to access my web page \wp-admin and login, from other countries.

Is there any way to immediately and automatically block the IPs of unsuccessful login attempts (particularly from other countries), or is that controlled by the ban IP by number of login attempts??

I see I can ban people who flunk a rule, and I do that for about 12 hours, but people trying to login are a different story.

There is no good reason for someone in China, or Germany, or India to be trying to log into my wordpress site.
