    Hello,
Sorry for a delayed reply. Unfortunately, it is not possible to hook into Disqus. It doesn’t use WordPress avatar systems and cannot be hooked into WordPress filters. It may be possible to replace avatars using JavaScript/jQuery, but it would basically mean writing new plugin and it wouldn’t be very clean and reliable solution. So WP First Letter Avatar is compatible with WordPress commenting systems, but only the ones which core is located on your server.

    Cheers,
    Dan

Yeah, I had a feeling that was going to be the case. It’s too bad because our custom set was going to be sooo cool.

I got confused because I saw the discussion of how your plugin coud be used to create a custom avatar set ON the Disqus website. (https://disqus.com/home/discussion/wpbeginner/how_to_use_first_letter_in_user8217s_name_as_avatar_in_wordpress_comments/) That’s what I get for skimming…

Thanks for looking into this and giving me the low-down. We do have some clever JS and PHP programmers on our team, so I’ll let you know if they end up finding a way to do it with jQuery.

I’m also looking into Livefyre as a comments option, but it doesn’t seem very promising at this point… Do you happen to have any suggestions for plugins that would allow WP First Letter Avatar to hook in while also allowing visitors to login with FB or Twitter if they prefer?

    Thanks!

No idea – I’m not familiar with comment plugins. From the plugins I’ve tested, wpDiscuz seems to be great, but I don’t think it offers Facebook login.

As for Disqus avatar filtering – it should be relatively straightforward to use jQuery to check each comment, check username and replace the avatar. If you have jQuery developers on your team, then I’m sure they can work it out.
