I use this page to provide PDF downloads. Can Site Kit be configured to log or record or count clicks on the Download or Orchard-Care button. Site Kit counts visits to the page but I want to count if the button is clicked.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @mckinney3 ,

Thanks for contacting Site Kit support team.

By visiting your website I can see you have configured both UA & GA4 properties. For event tracking like PDF downloads there is a file_download event automatically captured when a site has implemented GA4.

Currently Site Kit doesn’t display GA4 statistics or events within it’s dashboard although you can check this directly on your Google Analytics account. The Analytics Help Center should be able to assist if you’re unsure where to keep track of events.

Thank you for your quick response. I can navigate to the Google Analytics site and understand most of the standard information that is offered. But, I have to admit, I am just lacking the skills to find the event file-download and the associated data. I did not find clear info at the Help Center.

Is there anyone on the forum willing and able to walk me through the correct click path?

    thank you

    Hello @mckinney3 ,

No need to worry, you just need to do following simple steps:
    1. To track file_download, you must be activated “Enhanced Measurement” feature, which can be accessed from the GA4 interface(GA4 Admin → Data Streams → Web → Enhanced Measurement ). Please see screenshot here.

    2. After enabling the Enhanced Measurement option, please go the page where file placed & download the file. This is just for testing so you can see the stats. Make sure you are checking this in incognito window where you are not logged-in.

    3. Go to GA4 Real-time → Event count by Event name section. You’ll see file_download event there along with stats. See screenshot.

    Thank You Sir!

I believe that I have GA4 up and running on the windwardmeadows.com site.

How long before I will see any new information. I can access the various data screens but they are not populated with any new data. Maybe, my own access is filtered?

Again, thank you! Your advice is helpful!

    @mckinney3 you are welcome ??

Maybe, my own access is filtered?

Did you disable tracking for logged-in users? If yes then please enable & then make a try again. Hopefully you’ll see data after sometime.

Took about 24 hours but now I am seeing data. Thanks to your help!

Now, I see information for file-download event. I am missing how to accomplish the next step of capturing which files were downloaded.

I believe the specific file is associated with file-name but I do not how to use. What is that method, please?

Great to hear that you’re now seeing data.

In relation to capturing which files were downloaded the product experts at the Analytics Help Center should be able to assist better than we can here in plugin support. I believe you can enable “Enhanced Measurement” that includes additional file download ebent information from your Google Analytics interface at analytics.google.com (GA4 Admin > select your GA4 property > Data Streams > Click on your site name > Enable Enhanced Measurement). I have a demo below:

I’ll close this support topic now although let me know if you have any further queries on the above.
