Can Public Edit Published Blog

    Hi,
    I’m brand new to WordPress & blogging. I see that there is an EDIT hyperlink in the page footer that puts me back to the Dashboard. Does this mean that anyone out in the ether can edit my blog in my dashboard or is this just because the system recognises my computer?
    Sorry if this is too naive.
