Trying to find the best Worpress solution for a wedding photography business workflow. (I wasn’t thrilled by the limitations of Zenfolio and now I’m not thrilled with the constant problems on WordPress and want to save some time by linking to the old site on Zenfolio using Photonic for existing galleries.)

Basically I just installed Photonic and it looks like it is working with my Zenfolio-based site but only when I turn off the Meow Gallery plugin, which I want to use because of the LR Sync Meow plugin that syncs with Adobe Lightroom. (maybe I can just invent a “good enough” LR sync methodology inside LR)

Is this an either/or situation or can I turn off plugins on specified pages or posts? Suggestions? Answers? Thank you! Tom

This is now quite far beyond what I support for Photonic, more so because there is nothing wrong with how Photonic is behaving. For most lightbox scripts to work, they have to attach themselves to a elements, and the current markup that you have for MG doesn’t have a elements. If you tried to use any lightbox plugin with this markup you will face the same problem.

So at this point I am really troubleshooting a different plugin by reading its documentation etc.

Without trying to install MG, what I can think of is that the gap lies in how you are building your gallery in MG. If you look at the section for the Gutenberg Editor and the Standard Editor in the documentation you have linked, you have to begin your troubleshooting from there. E.g. I believe in the Standard Editor screenshot, in the pane where it says “Attachment Details”, if you scroll down I think you will see an option that says something similar to “Image links to”, and you will have a drop-down. Therein you have to select the option to go to a full-size image. For the Gutenberg gallery you should see something similar. That will hopefully do the trick.

As a photo hobbyist using Lightroom Classic I wanted a solution where I could sync LR exports with WordPress.

I tried assorted solutions including MG which I loved for its sync capabilities, but I eventually decided it wasn’t for me (other plugin issues/depending on WP folders which I don’t trust and a “disorganised” feel at the WP end) Jordy Meow is really helpful if you have MG issues.

I now use SmugMug and Photonic and love the solution!

    Workflow is;
Edit pics in LR Classic and add captions etc

Use SmugMug sync to sync pics to SmugMug

Use Photonic to display the SmugMug Album in my WP posts / pages

I also uses a different LR plugin which let’s me sync from SmugMug back to LR if I want (if I edit captions on SmugMug for example and want to sync back LR)

I can change the display order of pics manually in SmugMug if I want if the sort order needs to be tweaked

I also love having the pics in a SmugMug album which displays nicely just incase WP ever blows up ??

    Thanks Smith,

Zenfolio relies on a third-party plugin for the uploads and I have to check, but there isn’t a Sync option, but I supposed you could create a methodology for that, I’m not sure. Does Smugmug offer their own LR plugin?

I only saw one other LR Sync plugin out there on WP and it wasn’t as proven it seemed. WP has been a huge expense for my business and I do not trust it but Zenfolio needs to get with the program on their poor blogs and home page etc. but they’ve built something that works albeit it was very hard to learn too.

Too bad I’m now adapted to Zen because I like the printers on Smugmug more I think (but am in Canada…)

Yes, Jordy is great but I’ve been waiting a week or longer now to hear from Thomas so maybe it’s a patch issue for Lightbox, or maybe it’s on my site, I don’t know.Being on the bleeding edge has its drawbacks.

Yes Smugmug provide a LR plugin. This keeps LR Publish Services in sync. It has a couple of idiosyncrasies butI find it good.

SmigMug support are fast and seem to know what they are talking about. There is a cost but to me its worth it. I just didn’t want to be tied to LR / WP….especially when factoring in diskspace etc.

I also use MK Smug Syncback which syncs changes made on Smugmug back to LR

Good luck. If I can be of any more help let me know.

Thanks guys. Do Alt tags and descriptions from the Zenfolio gallery that Photonic imports help with SEO on the WP site that embeds the Zen gallery with Photonic?

In the old days you would just embed a whole web site in a frame or something. Would that work too?

None of my workarounds have worked insofar as getting Meow Lightbox to work or another substitute. When Meow Lightbox runs it seems to put a floating layer overtop of the Photonic gallery and the gallery won’t work properly until you X/close out the Meow Lightbox so it doesn’t look promising that way.

Hope I don’t end up having to ditch Meow after putting so much hope in that as a major building block. They’re super slow in filling me in on possible solutions but I’ll keep you posted. Thanks!

Hi Sayotan, so they fixed the Meow Gallery Lightbox plugin with a patch last night and it works but now I am currently running three gallery plugins on my site that I added while trying to figure all this out: Photonic for my Zenfolio galleries, Meow for Meow galleries and Foo for one new Foo gallery (which was recommended by Meow if someone wanted to try a good compatible gallery).

Everything is finally working fine except that when I am in a gallery created by Meow, the Meow Lightbox is now overlaid across yours. It still works but you see through to the other layer behind it which is yours. When you close the Meow LB then it is fine. Is there a way to block the Meow LB on Photonic pages? I don’t think I can just change the opacity of the MLB. I am also asking Thomas from Meow but I am not sure when I might hear back.

This is a bug with Meow. Think of it this way: does Photonic’s lightbox show up when you click on a Meow gallery? The answer is no, unless you have explicitly enabled the setting to use Photonic’s lightbox for non-Photonic galleries.

Basically, within Photonic I have a setting that lets me target just the Photonic galleries and nothing else. However, Meow’s lightbox seems to be targeting non-Meow galleries, hence the problem – you will have to get a fix from them for this.

That being said, did you try what I suggested in my previous post? Specifically this:

Do you see such settings in Meow Gallery’s options? If you do, then you can disable Meow’s lightbox altogether, and use Photonic’s lightbox for everything.

Thanks! I did notice that you or Foo offer a toggle to disable your plugin on any given page and Meow don’t yet.(maybe yours is built-in)

But, I’m not using Standard Gallery to make galleries in Meow; I’m using the LR Sync short code. When you upload images from LR it creates a shorcode in the plugin settings that you cut and pasted into a block so you don’t have direct control over it, nor do you have to deal with using media library.

I’ll look again at what you’re saying, later, but I kind of have to use Meow LR Sync and either Meow or Foo (which also works with the Meow plugin for Adobe Lightroom sync.) for any new, non-zenfolio galleries, but I haven’t purchased the Foo Premium yet, which I would need in order to have a plugin that works with LR Sync. That’s $349/lifetime on 5 sites though so I was going to wait and hear what Thomas from Meow has to say first and you. I didn’t think it was on your end but wanted to keep you posted. I can see that your system is working great.
