Can pages have taxonomies?

On a site I made about five years ago, the client has asked me if they can have tags/taxonomies – but on Pages not Posts. They want visitors to be able to filter the pages for specific criteria. is this possible, can you add taxonomies to pages, and then filter by the taxonomy terms? i know how to do it for custom post types but have never been asked to do it for pages before.
