• I really like this guys site, and I’m very curious if this type of outside navigation can be done in wordpress.

Like how it has transition animations from page to page, it never really loads a new page like in wordpress.

If you think it can’t be done, are there specific limitations you can point out as to why?

thanks so much for any help guys!

  • This is perfectly achievable in WordPress and as you say it doesn’t actually change page, their site is literally all on one page. However you may require some custom tweaking to the admin to get this set up correctly from a content management point of view. You could either set up a single page which will contain all the content for each of the ‘sections’ on the frontend. Alternatively you’ll need a custom page template that can pull in content from multiple pages and output them in the required sections.

It really isn’t that complicated, it would just take time to set everything up.

Thanks so much for your help ??

If his site is all on 1 page, how does he get the URL to change and appear as thought they are different pages.

Google also sees them as all different pages, pretty cool.

    Thanks so much!

It’s hard to be sure how it’s done on that site since we can’t see rewrite rules, but that is likely how it’s done. The WordPress front end is technically a one page site. All requests are rewritten to index.php. The content of the original URL is used to decide what content to serve in response. This is basically how any CMS site works. Maybe in this site’s case the URL content is used to generate a skip link to particular content on the page instead of altering content, but it’s still a rewrite scheme.

One could do something similar on any site that uses any kind of server side scripting like PHP. It doesn’t need to be a CMS platform, though such platforms make it much easier for non-coders to manage their content.
