I am using Media Temple as my server. I chmod 777 all the folders in order to upload theme as well as plugins. I have not put them back yet. I am running 4 sites with WordPress 3.04 install and 4 separate themes. Not one site dashboard will let me upload anything to the Media section, not one post or page will let me upload an image or any media file.

It says the “upload failed due to upload error.”
…and “The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts”

I have tried all the suggestions: I have turned Apache off, I have made WP-content 755 and Uploads 777, I have tried everything in every forem and nothing works.

Can any one help? This is a crappy way to start with WordPress:(

  • Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.
