is there some kind of special thing that makes the custom field or caption show. I am using this shortcode and not getting anything for customdata. I’ve tried a lot of variations.

    [fileaway base=”2″ type=”table” customdata=”Description” sortfirst=”custom” directories=”on”]

    Thanks for a great plugin!

You have to enter the customdata using manager mode. Add manager=”true” then use the Rename link to add your customdata to a given file.

ok found it on front end, but we have 3000 files. I have them in there using MMMW and Media library assistant. So I need to figure out how to get the pdf metadata into wordpress in bulk and then pull into File Away. Any ideas????

Is there anyway to rename them in bulk???

That’s not what customdata is, sorry. It doesn’t pull metadata from files.

Hi Thom, I can get the metadata into custom fields using another method, I just cant figure out how to get metadata that I populated into them to get picked up the customfield data using customdate=”Description” or title.

Maybe I don’t understand custom fields or maybe I am getting customfields from a plugin that is not compatible, I’m not sure. Is there a particular plugin i should use to get custom fields that I can then populate?

It sounds like you’re confusing file away’s functionality with other plugins’. Have you read the tutorials on file away attributes?

ok, I see. I have read that and researched all over trying different combos.

I was pulling in Media Files from the wordpress media directory where there are a bunch of pdfs. In there they have things like Captions, description etc. and I thought I could pull in those fields into the listing. So I was thinking that when I used customdata=”title”?or customdate=”description” that it would pull the info out of those fields from wordpress. But I gather that is not something this plugin can do.

You can use the attachaway shortcode. Did you read the attachaway tutorials?

fileaway is for files on your server. It has no relation whatsoever to the WP Media Library. attachaway is for post/page attachments and it does indeed pull in captions and descriptions into your table.

ok i looked at that. The thing is that I have about 3000 pdf files in about 300 directories nested by date and month. I need someway to get a navigation and list of the files in each folder as people navigate to them. I thought this would be ideal, and it is beautiful, but I need to also get either a custom field to display for the name that i can import the names from the metadata or just pull out the pdf meta-title. Otherwise its a bunch of files in dates folers that say things like 123-45a.pdf and so on.

My files are not attached to posts or anything like that. I was going to try doing this in php, right now it’s a jsp that wont port over to a new server.

I really like your plugin – its awesome, but i guess it’s not the right thing for this job unless i can figure out how to populate all the custom fields without manually clicking.

    Thanks for your help.

Yeah, sorry. File Away doesnt do what you’re looking for. Good luck!
