    Can not access /wp-admin/install.php

    When I try I get a blank page with the following header message:

    “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”

    My host provider said it is because he is running PHP version 5.2.3 and that it is not compatable with wp. Is this true and is there a work around? My server is also running:

    Apache version1.3.37 (Unix)

    MySQL version 5.0

    I have access to the directory if I place an html file in it.

    I am running windows xp and I have a local copy of wp installed to localhost.

    I have shut down my local servers to avoid any conflict. set my IE browser to 0 security, shut off my firewall and clearded all history and cookies and reset my ip address. My folder permisions are 777.

    No help…

    I have tried with and without the db port number.

    Something is blocking me from getting in there to run the file.

    Any Ideas? Please.

    My local isp is Comcast.

    My config file Is as follows:

    define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘XXXXXX’);
    define(‘DB_USER’, ‘XXXXX’);
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘XXXXXX’);
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘mydb.dndchosting.com:3306’);
    define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’);
    define(‘DB_COLLATE’, ”);

    Thank You for your help

    Dennis

  • Im having a similiar issue.

    I upgraded mysql, php and apache to very latest versions using custom yum packages and then my wordpress worked, but was missing lots of options under the ‘options’ tab, meaning I couldnt access sitemap creation or ping features.

    I only had access to the SEo plugin, so I reinstalled from scratch as a test, and I have the same issue as you report in the install.

    I get a 404 error when I try and reach the install page.
    if I delete my db password out of wp-config.php I get the wordpress ‘cannot connect to db’ page so I have a feeling this is connected to the new encryption of passwords that mysql 5.?? uses

    I was going to reset the DB password as a first step

    Link to possible fix Anyone have any other ideas

    I already tried reseting the password. In fact I even deleted the db and started over. No improvement. I did find about 1800k of ,???,php file once obly. I downloaded it to see what it was but I can’t find it.

    @dbsnovacomcast: is your wp running ok on your localhost?

    did you make sure your pointing at the right file directory on your production server? is there like a “./” folder ?

    have you tried deleting everything from the server, recreating the wp database?

    those mysql/php versions should work fine with wp.
    does your host ips provide a 1 click install?

    try downloading a fresh wp install, maybe theres some files missings

    letme know if anything worked

    yeah. Ive tried this an it made sod all difference.

    My server is a dedicated one that runs centos.
    All my other sites run perfectly. Just Wp since mysqp php httpd upgrades.

    I have re downloaded the package, created a fresh db, run the install, got as far as WP created my wp-config.php for me with no problems, then on to the install….and ‘cannot find server’ error page?

    wtf. sorry to bust in on your thread, just thought I would share my frustration with a very similiar sounding problem!

    wprockstar

    Thanks for trying

    My localhost wp is also not working anymore. I assume it’s because I cleared the cookies. I get the same no display page from ie.

    When veiwing my site from filezilla the folders are:

    .. no access to this one
    jewelsofawe.com this is my hosted site and my first point of access.

    My hosting service does not provide 1 click install.

    On the recomendation of my host provider I just tried v. 2.3.2RC1 with the same results.

    I have tried all the other items you mentioned more than once.

    I have new info on this problem.

    I just tried to access the install.php file from another computer that has never heard of WordPress and it’s attached to a different isp. I copied the url to the Install file directly from the shell so no type’Os

    Same result:

    Can not display this page.

    ***

    Is it possible to access the install file by way of an html file. I have access to those. I also can’t access the index.php file and there is one in the wp root. I’m starting to think my host dosen’t have or allow php access. (they actually do mas I use the phpadmin.

    By Chance are you using a windows server instead of Linux? I have the same issue and I was told to change to linux which im waiting for it to update before I can see if that was the issue.

    Apache version1.3.37 (Unix)

    @dbsnovacomcast: did you try viewing it on a different computer?

    (@dbsnovacomcastnet)

    Yes, today and a different isp as well.

    I finally got a wordpress page by deleting the ‘ around the db name, password etc. in the config.php file. Now I am getting:

    Error establishing a database connection

    I think that is a different issue so I will close this thread and start a new one.
