Can no longer change translations

Hi! Ever since updating from version 3.2.1 changes made to the translation no longer are saved to the site. And instead of showing the translations already made it shows for example:
this text in front’, ‘ddd

where “ddd” is the name of the theme, and “this text in front” is the original placeholder text. This specific text was set up like this in the theme:

<?php echo pll__( ‘this text in front’, ‘ddd’ )?>

Any ideas on what could the problem be?
