Can New Install Use Old db?

  • My old WordPress 3.1 site uses an old PHP version (5.3 I think) that’s about to be rendered useless by a host server upgrade.

    QUESTION: Can I install the current WordPress version 4.7.3 and tell it to use the existing MySQL database /un/pw, rather than updating the old WP across so many versions?

    Will this preserve all posts and pages?

    Anything else I need to do?|

    Once the “new” site is working, I’ll delete the old site.
