Twenty Twelve Theme, can more widgets be installed?

  • I am playing with a new blog. I have created the blog locally on my server using the Twenty Twelve theme. I am also playing with a blog up on WordPress.com using the Twenty Twelve theme as well.

    The Twenty Twelve theme up on WordPress.com has many more widgets than the downloaded installed Twenty Twelve theme on my server. I am not clear as to why that is as it is the same theme.

    Is there a way to download and install more widgets for a particular theme locally?

  • widgets are generally not theme specific; because you can use plugins to add more widgets with WordPress.org, WordPress.org installs have fewer default widgets than WordPress.com blogs.
