I have searched the forums on this, and havent found an answer. I switched to Chrome for a while to do admin. Then had to reload one of my sites as it broke. It is now 3.0.1. The others are 3.0. I can log into the other sites on IE and Firefox, but into this site enablers.co.nz only using Chrome. I am loath to climb into phps, because I still have access. However, it frightens me if Chrome suddenly loses its login ability. I have already tried the cookies and the cache.

  • When you say you can’t login… at what point in the process does the login fail, and are there any error messages, redirects, or any other clues or indicators?

I can see your login page in both IE and FF just fine, but obviously, I can’t test beyond just viewing the page.

Thanks ClaytonJames. I get the login screen, either via wp-admin or I have tried wp-login.php. I then enter ID and password. The browser hesitates, then I get the empty login screen displayed. All okay on Chrome. And, like i say, my V3.0 sites are okay on all browswers. There are no error messages, redirects, just the blank login screen.

My knee-jerk reaction is to first suggest renaming the plugins folder via ftp and see if the symptom changes. Perhaps some difference in the way chrome handles a particular script, is allowing it to be forgiving in this instance. My second reaction is to suggest re-uploading the wordpress files manually using an ftp client, and check the result. Other than that, I can’t think of much else that could possibly cause that to happen.

Hi ClaytonJames. Tried that, well actually just deactivated the plugins. But still didnt work. I noticed, on IE, when I typed in the wrong password, IE alerted me, telling me to enable cookies and use the correct password etc. But cookies are enabled. However, the messages tells me it was getting through to the password section somehow.
I cant believe I am the only one to encounter this. I will be sticking with V3.0 on the other sites meanwhile.
But thanks for your suggestions though

Solved. elsewhere I got pointed at the Dashboard/General settings. Somehow the URLs for WordPress and other were blank. Dont ask me how. But filled them in, and now can login via IE and Firefox.
Dont ask me to explain any of the above, but it worked.

I’m having the exact same problem in a multisite setup in our school district – most users can login, some can’t. For most, neither IE nor Firefox works (haven’t tried Chrome), but for a few they can get in through Firefox. Clearing the cookies/cache doesn’t help, and deleting their Windows profile has helped in some but not all cases.

I looked in our Dashboard > Settings > General and don’t see any options for setting a URL; all of the URLs in our site settings (when I go to Super Admin > Sites > Edit) seem fine. This bug is driving me crazy!

    My Settings > General were:

    WordPress address (URL): https://localhost

    Site address (URL: https://192.168.1.67

With both set to https://192.168.1.67 the login works in all three browsers.
