Do you recommend using this plugin by itself (as the sole source/method of fighting spam) or in conjunction with another plugin? If you recommend an additional plugin, which one in particular (i.e. one that won’t interfere with Goodbye Captcha)?

Additionally, does this plugin eliminate the need for more general “security” plugins like iThemes Security (formerly wp secure)?

Those other plugins seem to have a lot of conflicts/problems and it would be nice to be able to install just one simple/light weight plugin like Goodbye.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts/opinions!

    Hi Jordan,

    Thank you for your interest.

    1. I recommend using this plugin by itself. I have it on my sites and I can say that it does an excellent job stopping automated robots.
    2. Even if GoodBye Captcha’s main purpose is to stop spam(automated bots spam and not human spammers), it can be used as a shield against malicious attempts just like iThemes Security. For instance, beside spam protection, you can use it for brute force protection on all your forms or you can use it to block the ip addresses of the spammers.
    3. There shouldn’t be any conflict with any other WordPress plugin. I’ve test GoodBye Captcha with many plugins and no problems occur so far. Also I didn’t receive so far any complaints about possible conflicts.

    Best Regards,
    Mihai

Thank you for your prompt reply. How does it block the IP addresses?

Also, would you consider adding an option to disable the “website” field in the comments box so that people/bots can’t leave URL addresses, etc? It is a few lines of code, but not everyone is comfortable editing the PHP files. This option alone would stop a lot of spam. Believe it or not, there are no up-to-date plugins that do this anymore. There used to be quite a few, but they are no longer supported or don’t work with newer versions of WordPress. From a marketing perspective, I think this option would draw more attention and create more demand for Goodbye Captcha.

Thank you for all your work and effort with this plugin.

The Block Ip Feature works like this:
    1. Whenever GoodBye Captcha detects a spam attempt, it gets the IP address of that request and stores it into database. Of course this happens if the plugin is activated for these forms.
    2. If this IP is marked as blocked by the site admin, then next time when that IP will perform a form submission, that submission gets rejected.

Yes, in the next release I’ll add an option to disable the “website” and “allowed tags” fields from comments form.

    Thanks for suggestion,
    Mihai
