• Hi,
I’m very new to WordPress and I’m still finding my way around it. I have two questions and appreciate your expert answers.

    1. Can I upload my own html and css files to WordPress, i.e.. basically create my own webpage structure and style, without using themes?

    2. Is my understanding correct that if I use WordPress, then I will need to use a theme to build my website?

    Thanks

  • Q2: Yes, a theme is central to the WordPress mechanism.

Q1: You can use your own css and html, it will usually need to be modified to various degrees to co-operate with the theme.
If on the other hand, you develop a plugin to deliver customised tables or forms say, then your html/css will be more independent of WordPress.
As I said in Q2, the output of WordPress revolves around your theme, no escaping it.
