Can I use existing products as variations in Woocommerce?

    For product variations, I do not see an option to have existing products as variations under an “umbrella product”. Here’s an example:

    The store I have workbooks created. 715 titles. Many of these titles are variations of the same title but for different age levels. So we set up “umbrella” products that describe a title and it’s content, but uses variations to sell all the different age-related workbook titles. These variations are actual products that are in the system.

    How can I create these “umbrellas”? or can I?
    Does the variation have to be created as a variation?
