Can I use a previoiusly purchased and parked domain name on a free WP blog?

  • Can I purchase a domain name and parked it on 1&1 or Bluehost, and use that same name, temporarily, on a free blog on the www.remarpro.com system? Later I would transfer the temporary site over to 1&1 or Bluehost.

    I am looking at setting up a community site later on and that is the reason for all this. But in the meantime, I want to put up a free blog with the content I have available.

  • I don’t see why not. Check what options are available for domain re-direction with your chosen hosting/DN supplier.

    I would steer clear of both 1and 1 and Bluehost. I host my domain names with Godaddy, even though theey are a little more expensive. I am switching my hosting company away from Mediatemple and probably will go with Justhost or Lunarpages, most probably Lunarpages.

    I highly recommend midphase hosting. Great customer service and support!

    Just to clarify the reason for my question: My wife wants to set up a free blog for her hobby. Later she wants to graduate this into a commercial website and monetize it using affiliate marketing, Google Adsense, and promoting her own products. She wants to have a domain name she can use throughout the whole process.

    “a-johnson and WebStyley” mentioned their choice of hosts. I’m not certain if I would use 1&1 or Bluehost; however, they have been recommended by another forum and I do have a couple of domain names parked on them for future use which I could transfer to other hosts. Can you give me specifics of why you do not recommend them?

    1and1- Horrid customer service. They used to be regularly accused of killing accounts and seizing domains from customers then extorting huge amounts to restore the domain and service. They have an allotment of 20MB of server memory per account, that is not enough to run any CMS that I know of.

    Bluehost- Actually a nice company unless you are an artist. They think anything that shows boobs, butts, too much skin, sexy poses etc. are porn and they will kill your account and seize your domain. They do the same thing for profanity too. FYI, they are based in Utah. Uh huh.

    Thanks, that’s good to know. I have never used 1&1 for a website but I have had a domain name parked there for over a year now. I do know of others who used to use them and that’s why I thought I may try them. I won’t after hearing this.

    Not sure if Bluehost moral code would bother my wife with her topic, but I’ll let her know about it. Thanks.
