We used WiseChat for a virtual show we ran last winter, and had to uninstall it mid-show because it completely crashed our server. Our web host told us that it was taking up an insane amount of system resources.

However, it’s one of the only chat plugins we’ve found that allows us to have the multi-channel support that we need. Our shows have between 50-100 vendors, each with their own “virtual booth,” each of which is on a separate page of our site.

We have created a different channel for each vendor, so potentially 50-100 channels operating simultaneously on our site.

We’d like to use it for another upcoming show we have, but what can we do to ensure it won’t crash our server again?

  • I’m not the plugin developer, but you’ll need a powerful server if you have 50 to 100 channels running at a time.

Each of those channels will be doing ajax calls every 3 seconds for each and every user who’s on your site.

Yes, the plugin may be resources-demanding. If you need a high capacity plugin please consider finding a websocket chat solution.

    Best regards
