Would anyone care to comment on the following scenario?
In tidying up my blog by removing unnecessary categories, I’m faced with a bit of a puzzle: My current default category is what I’d actually like to appear on my Home page, and I’d like my current Home page contents to be shown in my default category. In other words, while I knew that removing excess categories simply ‘dumped’ those posts to my default category, what happens if I remove my default category? Would that ‘dump’ everything to index.php (Home)? That would be good because then I could config index.php and the default category appropriately.

But as with most things in WordPress, I don’t wanna do anything until I have a fair idea about what’s going to happen. Thanks for any insights!

  • You cannot “dump” the default category: in other words you cannot delete it!

By default, the index page (main page, home page of the blog) displays posts from ALL the categories.

To control which categories appear on your home page (and, eventually, othe views) use a plugin:

    It is that simple.
Also, remember: by clicking on any category name it takes you to the so-called category archives (category view) where only posts from that category are shown.

Thx, Moshu. I thought that might be the case. At least that narrows down my options for doing what I wanna do (tho’ without making it any easier)
