Can I style the latest post differently from all others?

I’m trying to have it the background color of the most recent post is different from all others on the main page.

Is this even possible? I haven’t found anything in the forums that fits this exactly; most posts refer to styling current categories, pages or post titles in a sidebar widget.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
