Can I show only 1 level deep for pages?

I have the pages going down my sidebar and tabbed over a bit are each of their subpages. Then tabbed over a bit more are these pages’ subpages. Is there a way I can eliminate everything below the first sublevel and just show the parent pages and their immediate child pages? The only thing I can think of right now is to use code that excludes each sub-sub page individually when calling the pages.
