Some questions about a prospective WP site
-
Greetings. I used to have a couple of WP sites but have not been involved with WP for about 3 years. The product sure has matured during that time — I am very impressed with the product and the myriad themes & addons available.
Here’s my question: I have a prospective client who would like a community site for his professional group of about 100 members. The requirements include a small public website of a few pages — just a brochure really — along with a very simple community portal. My first thought was to use a community platform such as one of the nukes or wikis. But honestly, I think that is overkill for these guys — plus I hate those kinds of sites.
What they really want is the ability to post occasional announcements and short articles, share files, have discussions, and post and share their personal profiles. I think WP (maybe along with bbPress) and maybe a profile and file gallery plugin would fit the bill nicely. The thing I like about working with WP is I am already familiar with it, know how to do basic theming, and the finished sites are always robust, simple to use, and professional looking.
I would love some feedback from you all. Is this a good decision? Any ideas, potential pitfalls, etc?
