Can I set up WP to work like a MySpace account?

  • Hi all.

    I want to set up WordPress to work like MySpace, where I can put a video file (this can be a .swf Flash file or maybe youTube/Google/etc.) by my “profile/photo” and an MP3 player.

    Is this over-ambitious to do with WordPress? Anyone have tips/examples of something like it?

    Do I need to put a plugin to do that kind of work?

    I want an area where my “friends” can be added on a sidebar and they can post thoughts or stuff.

    Or is this something up the alley of WordPressMU? I’m still not clear what WordPressMU is? Is that the “heavier” version, or is it more like the “lite” version, sort of like Blogspot vs Blogger?

    I want the ability to have my select (with my permission of course) friends be able to set up a blog/community forum within my main WordPress site. Is this even possible?

    Its kindof a “forum” where we can discuss stuff like politics and such. Or am I asking too much from WP?

  • I don’t know if you ask too much or not… but in any case you should learn the difference between a “community forum” and a “blog” before asking questions ??
    THey are two different animals.
    As for MU = multi user – and you can learn about it at https://mu.www.remarpro.com

    How you customize your WP install/blog… it is entirely up to you and your XHTML/CSS/PHP skills, in case you want all kind of fancy stuff.
    If you just want to add features: browse the many hundreds of plugins.

    If you want your friends to comment on your post > WP.
    If you want to offer them their own blog > WPMU.
    If you need a forum > look for a forum software.
