  • It’s okay to remove that, many sites don’t show that.

    Don’t have an official link but if it’s that important you might want to contact your attorney.

    If you look at footer.php in the Default theme, you’ll see this comment:

    <!-- If you'd like to support WordPress, having the "powered by" link somewhere on your blog is the best way; it's our only promotion or advertising. -->

    I suppose that’s another way of saying that if you wouldn’t like to support WordPress in this way, then it’s okay to remove the link.

    Sorry for reviving this old thread, but I have a little issue with this same situation. I’ve removed the “powered by WordPress” text and link from the footer file, but the text and working link still shows up on my page.

    Obviously I did something wrong. Which file is the one I have to edit to eliminate this text?
