Can I mark some text inside a code block ?

Hello

I am using Syntax highlighter evolved to show code in my blog. However, I needed to mark portion of the text with yellow background. There are few plugins out there that should enable this, or you can just put your text in a <span style=”background-color:yellow;”> tag (this is also what most plugins do under the hood).

However, this does not work inside a Syntax highlighter block ([java] for example) and I just see the tags and the text is not marked as desired.

Is there a way to keep formatting my code with syntax highlighter and also have part of it marked ?
