Can i install wordpress with windows hosting better than linux hosting??

  • Hi i am abhinav,
    i am a html guy and dint know anything about php ,
    i am trying to build a website using wordpress… Is that possible for a guy like me who doesnt know much about php.

    Also Can i do it with windows hosting..

    My service provider is asking me to migrate to linux hosting and saying that all will be same and wordpress can be uploaded in it with the help fantastico…

    I am very confused as what to do as i have to take a decision as i want to launch my website soon.

    Please help me by providing a helpful reply…

  • Will WordPress run on a Windows server? Yes. That assumes someone who knows what they are doing (aka the service provider) has properly configured PHP and MySQL. Not everything will work perfectly though (for instance, pretty Permalinks) but it works.

    I, personally, would encourage you to take your provider’s advice and move to a Linux server. After all, it’s not like you are the one installing and configuring PHP and MySQL ??

    I’d suggest that it’s generally more common to be using a Linux + Apache set up than anything else (e.g Windows + IIS or Linux + some other web server). So that means that stuff is more likely to work as expected on Linux + Apache than anything else.

    In other words, you may as well move to the Linux hosting if nothing else you do requires Windows.
