• Hi,

I haven’t installed the WordPress yet. Before I do that, I’d like to ask a few things since Googling didn’t make any satisfied results. I try to be accurate with my query.

    I have:
    – a domain (#1) (not connected to any host)
    – a host with a domain (#2) (with a working website)

Can I install the WP to the host (that already has one website, not wp) without affecting the already working website with the domain #2?

    For example:
I already have a website example.com working in the host with the domain #2.

Can I make a new website with domain #1, example2.com using wordpress and the same original host without affecting the original example.com website.

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

you can do what you want. Specifics will be different, depending on your host, but in general you need to do two things:

    1. Set up WordPress in a (sub)directory not used by your current website. How to do this depends on your host.
    2. Set up DNS (domain name) records to point example2.com to the newly set up WordPress install from the previous step.

The detailed install instructions will help.

Okay, thanks a lot! This is very important to know that it even is possible.

How about the multiple sites. Is it still possible to use them (assuming that wordpress will work perfectly on my host) eventhough there is the original page in the root (example.com)?

My plan would have the https://www.example2.com in swedish and https://www.example2.com/en for the english version of the page, so the other language would be as a subfolder.

I’m sorry for the rookie level questions.

    Hi,
WordPress can handle multiple sites itself, including multi language sites. That said, WordPress can also be installed in a subdirectory, giving in your case the English site, and leaving your original Swedish site unchanged.
You need to be aware that if you choose this kind of subdirectory setup, your main site available at https://www.example2.com must allow http requests to https://www.example2.com/en to go through (and not give an error page). Again, the specifics depend on your Swedish site setup.
