Can I hide WP by installing onto an existing site with an index.html?
-
Hello all,
I have a quick question. I’m planning on starting a new WP site to replace an existing website. I have never figured out how to move the a WP installation into a new folder (in another site, I built it in a “/wp” directory and then messed everything up after trying to migrate it to the root directory [I tried following the instructions here, but still messed it up… I know…])
Anyways, I digress. What I was wondering is, could I just install WordPress into the root directory of an existing “normal html” site, and keep the original html site active until I delete those files? In other words, will the browser default to index.html over WordPress’s index.php? Will this cause problems?
I would like to start designing and building the new site without taking the existing one down, and would really like to avoid having to move the directory…
Okay, thanks so much for any help you might be able to provide. Happy 2011!
