Can I have custom plugin repository?

My plugin is not ready for public release but I want to test the upgrade process and give it to few people for testing.

It would be great if I can create (my own) custom plugin repository so after installing the plugin, update, new version notification and other wordpress features will be as for any other plugins using standard wordpress repository.

Is that possible to do so?
