This is probably a stupid question, but this is my first blog/website ever and I’m new to everything. I just want to do everything right the first time and avoid headaches down the road.

So I’m finally ready to write my first blog entry. I created it in Microsoft word before downloading WordPress. Will I have issues if I copy the word file and paste it into WordPress? Or do I need to paste it into notepad first, then paste or upload it into WordPress?

I guess my question is, how do I create blog entries without typing them directly into WordPress originally?

Generally, you should paste from Word into notepad, then paste from notepad into WordPress. There is a “Paste from Word” button on the visual editor but I believe it does about the samething.

For Microsoft Windows try Windows Live Writer.

    Yes.

You should create your articles in the WordPress visual editor. That’s what it’s for.

If you copy directly from Word into the visual editor, it’s likely to be a disaster when it gets to your site. If you use the ‘Paste from Word’ facility in the visual editor you might just get away with it, but I always advise clients against it. Word processing formats and HTML just do not play nicely with each other IMO.

So the answer to your final question is that if you want an easy like, you’ll use the tools provided (the visual editor in the dashboard) and not try to copy from anywhere else.
