    Hi all,
I have a ProPhoto blog theme installed on the domain https://www.lisaslugoski.com

I just bought a flosite (which is a website and blog theme built on wordpress) and want to install it on that domain (replacing the ProPhoto blog theme). However, I don’t want people to see me customizing my new site as I am working on it. I want to leave the ProPhoto theme active until I am completely finished customizing the flosite.

Can this be done? If so, how? I hope this made sense!!

    absolutely.

Keep the current theme activated. this is what people will see when they visit your site. You can work on the new theme either on your local server or check the preview in Appearance | Themes section within wordpress admin. you only need to activate the new theme when you are ready

I wasn’t sure if it was that simple!! I was worried about files being screwed up and not in the right place. You just made my day!!

    Thank you!!

@ambaroti Okay, when I do that it will only allow me to preview the new theme. It says in the install instructions that I have to install wordpress on my server and then upload the theme contents to wp-content/themes folder.

I don’t want to erase the ProPhoto blog. And I really don’t want it to be viewable as I customize? Advice? I’m scared if I do as it says in the install instructions it will overwrite the install I have there currently….

    Help!!

You cannot have more than one theme active at a time – and you can’t do permanent changes to a theme in preview mode. You’ll need to either install WordPress on your local computer and build the site there or install WP and the new theme in a sub-directory – see:

Okay, so if I remove the old blog and install a fresh copy of wordpress there, and install the new theme, can I just throw up a random index.html file hiding the new site? Something that says “Working on new stuff, visit me on facebook”? I am worried about screwing around with the structure of the links…

And moving directories and the like scares me!!

Hmmm, I make changes in editor and preview the theme. The changes are permanent. I have done that a couple of times. Although it’s a bit fiddly.

But as WPyogi says develop it locally or in a sub directory. Either way you won’t have to delete the old theme until you are ready.

How do you develop it locally? I really don’t like moving directories. Which I will have to do once I delete the old site, correct?

And thanks for your help. I appreciate it! ??

If you do it locally, you will have to move the entire site, yes.

You would have to install xammp. https://sawmac.com/xampp/

Once done, you then install wordpress in your localhost folder.

Is the ProPhoto a wordpress theme?
