• I’m getting very confused about templates.

I have created a customized template that I want to use for every page of the website. I have figured out how to apply the template on a new page, so that’s no problem. However, whenever I try to edit the individual page, it changes the entire template on every page.

I first applied the template to my contact page and edited accordingly. Then I created a services page, applied the template, and began to customize it. I made an about page, thinking I was on the right track. But when I went back to check all of the pages, I discovered they all turned into the about page (exact same content). Of course, I was frustrated to have lost all my previous work.

How can I use the template as exactly that – a template that I can customize on individual pages without editing the entire template every time? Is it even possible? I was even looking for ways to duplicate the template so I can just apply the duplicated version to the page I need but I couldn’t find an option for that.

  • Hi
I am not sure I understand, but it sounds like you want to have a base design to start from, that you then customize differently for different pages.

It is not clear to me why you need to edit the template of each page instead of making the individual changes to the page content.
If you need to make changes to the template, then you will indeed need one custom template for each page, not one template to be used on all pages.
The template that is used for all pages is synced, if you make a change in one place, the template is updated everywhere, just like if you have one header part and you change the header, it is updated everywhere.

    You can:

    • Create a new non-synced block pattern with your entire base design.
    • Then create new individual custom templates for each of these pages
    • Insert the pattern, as a means to have a design to customize instead of starting from a blank page.
