Can I create a new WordPress site with my old domain?

  • Hi everyone,

    I want to create a new WordPress site, but to use my old domain that I already have on another WordPress site, which I want to close. Is that possible? What are my options?

    P.S.Don’t ask why, it’s complicated.

    Yes. If you’re changing hosts, you just need to change the DNS records for your domain so they point to your new site instead of the old one. If not, just delete the old site and build the new one.

    Your domain name points to an address, like mail. If you delete the old site and put a new one there all the traffic will see new site.

    If you move the hosting to another company you will have to point the domain to the new address.

    More advise:

    Build the new site as a staging or temporary site (custom URL) and when done, then make it live by pointing DNS to it.

    If using same host, ask them, if using new host ask them, how to do that…
