    Hi,

When I installed WordPress, my username defaulted to Admin for some strange reason.

Even though the profile page’s Username field says (no editing), can I simply use phpmyadmin, go into the database and change my username? If so, in what table do I find this info?

    Thanks,
    Gene

  • I did the same thing. I can’t get into my control panel from work, so I can’t give you the specifics. There’s a “users” link somewhere as I remember. What you can do too, btw, is just go to your dashboard, make a new user, promote it to “administrator” and delete the “admin” account.

Yes, you can use phpMyAdmin. I’ve done it. The table is wp_users; fields user_login and user_nicename. user_nicename is user_login but in lower case and with spaces changed to dashes. You probably want to change display_name, too.

    Thanks,

Great to have 2 options. Like the idea of creating another user (admin) then deleting the other.

Gene, one minor point about that option is that that user of course has no posts and when you just change the name in CPanel, everything remains the same but the name.
