Can I block rss feed to public?

  • I’m getting spammned…..and HATING It.
    Is there anyway to block the wp-rss viewing? This is the way in for them – as my webstats are showing me that the rss page has over 100 hits TODAY. (Please…it’s a private family blog that you must have a password to view or write on.) I’ve removed the ability to add comments, turned on all the spam blockers. No luck.
    Any more online poker spam and I’m going to scream!
    Can anyone help? Can it be blocked without and .htaccess file? (My 77+ parents who blog with us barely remember their usernames/password to log in to wordpress. I don’t think another password is the solution here).
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Delete the wp-rss / wp-rss2 / wp-atom files if you want no rss access at all.
    Removing the ability to comment may not help either – install some plugins, if nothing else to be safer.

    what about deleting the commentrss page?
    Is that okay?

    It’s not your RSS that’s drawing SPAM, it’s your update services. Don’t disable either, both would cut you off from the outside world and alienate users seeking accessibility. Use the hacks and plugins at the link that Podz provided instead.
