Can I auto generate excerpt by saving a post?

    the plugin is ingenious. If you use the older version and deactivate the updates, it also works in WordPress 5.6 up to version 2.5.
    Unfortunately, I can only generate text extracts when I plan ahead or publish a post. If I have a caption in the first paragraph, it is taken over as text. The text excerpt has to be edited first. When I now publish the post, the text excerpt does not fit at first.
    Can I somehow exclude captions from the text recognition?
    Can I also have text extracts created when I save a draft?
    How does that work? > you can send me some code or a function that I can integrate. I am used to working with snippets and adaptions of the functions.php.
