Can Custom Fields be used for Open Graph Protocol?

So. Can I put into the ‘name’ – og:type, og:description etc and then in the ‘value’ section the Open Graph “content”?

    Yes.

My only suggestion is, write it into a plugin rather than the functions file in your theme.

Best wishes, I just finished writing a very light plugin for Open Graph Protocol myself. However, my plugin is quite static but I was thinking of using Custom Fields to control singular posts meta data.

    Best wishes.

I’ve found the Simple Facebook Connect plugin by Ottopress.com and it works a treat for me. I do recommend that at present.

Yup, SFC is awesome! He also has a simple twitter connect which is just as cool (and I’ve heard rumours of work on a Google+ connect that I truly hope comes true!)

Regarding the og tags as custom fields, keep in mind that this won’t take care of any tag, category, or archive pages. It can work if you’re just building a site with “pages”, but if you’re using posts and categories (and/or tags) and intend to allow visitors to view those category or tag archive pages, your og tags would be empty without some additional checking and coding.
