It should automatically resize horizontally, but I’m assuming you mean vertically. It’s hard-coded to a specific height (the same as the editor is in core). I understand that most browsers automatically add a gripper to textarea inputs these days for resizing it, but using the ACE editor, this doesn’t happen.

I’ll make an effort to see if this can be done automatically. I might also add in the ability to switch the editor to full-screen mode, but it doesn’t have that ability right now either.

Oh, I wouldn’t want full-editor mode myself. I’d just like to make it bigger on my already-big monitor. Another code editor I used before, Advanced Code Editor, seems to have lost the ability to resize, too. Yes, I do mean vertically.

Hi, i need that as well. I use WP for an ages, and previous version of WP, of browsers itself had vertically resizable editor area, but now everyone sees that resizer icon, and can’t resize it. It confuse a lot, i thought i have any JS troubles at first, then i noticed that the latest WP version with another theme running have the same problem.

I think there shouldn’t be resize icon, or that field should be resizable.

I just gave up. I’m doing all my code editing (like the CSS or functions.php) in Coda 2 (Mac only), a lovely code editor that works wonderfully with just about any coding you need to do. Especially since this post is 7 months old, the function is still not available, and the author last posted 7 months ago. Apparently, not a priority. I removed Better File Editor.

That’s actually the ideal choice. I highly recommend everyone find a better code editor if you’re spending a lot of time in the built-in editors. This plugin is just meant to make life a little easier for those occasional minor changes you feel safe with making live. Everything else should be developed offline.
